What is the Nutifafa Art Competition?

The Nutifafa Art Competition is a national creative challenge organized by Nutata Network. It invites young Ghanaian artists to explore the theme “Rest Round About” through visual art — reflecting peace, healing, cultural pride, and identity.

Who can participate?

Middle school students
High school students
University students
Emerging community-based artists (under age 25)
Participants may enter either through their school or independently.

 Is there a fee to enter?

No. Participation is completely free. Nutata believes access to creative opportunities should not be limited by financial barriers.

Can I participate even if my school is not officially registered?

Yes. Independent submissions are welcome. Simply register through the public Google Form on our website.

Can I collaborate with another artist?

No. All work must be individually created and submitted. Group or co-authored submissions are not accepted.

What is the competition timeline?

Can I still register after May 27?

Yes — registration remains open until the final submission deadline on June 23.

How do I register?

Register through the Google Form available on www.nutatanetwork.org and our social media pages. If you’re participating through a school, your liaison can help with the process.

What should I submit?

One original piece of 2D visual art
File format: JPG, PNG, or PDF
Title of the work
A short artist statement (max 150 words)
Your bio and contact info

What types of art are accepted?

Drawing
Painting
Collage
Digital illustration
Mixed media

Not accepted:
Photography
Video art
AI-generated work
Collaborative pieces

How do I write a short artist statement?

Your artist statement should explain:
What inspired your piece
How it connects to the theme “Rest Round About”
What story, emotion, or message it conveys

Example (Painting):
This piece, titled “Safe Ground,” reflects my longing for peace that is not just silence but healing. The cracked ground represents my past, while the gold lines show how I’m learning to see value in my journey.

Example (Digital Art):
My work shows a figure walking through waves, wrapped in kente cloth. It represents identity as a source of rest. I want viewers to feel both movement and peace.

How should my artist bio be written?

Include:
Your name and age
Your level (e.g., SHS 2, university student, or community artist)Your school or region
Why art matters to you

Example (Student):
I’m Nana Kwame, 16, from Presec SHS. I use painting to explore identity and storytelling. This is my first art competition.

Example (Community Artist):
My name is Esi Abena, 22, a digital artist from Kumasi. I didn’t study art formally, but it’s been my voice since childhood. I create from memory, emotion, and faith.

How do I name and upload my file?

Upload the file via the official Google Form.

Can I submit more than one piece?

No. Each participant may submit only one original artwork.

How are entries judged?

A panel of artists, educators, and mentors will score each piece based on:
Interpretation of the theme
Creativity and originality
Artistic technique
Emotional impact
Clarity of the artist statement

What are the prizes?

Total Prize Pool: GHS 4,000
First Place: GHS 1,200
Second Place: GHS 800
Third Place: GHS 600
People’s Choice Award: GHS 400
School-level winners: (6x100)GHS 600
“Rest Visionary” Award: GHS 400

What happens after I submit my work?

Submissions will be reviewed by judges.
Finalists and selected artists will be featured in Nutata’s virtual gallery and honored during the Nutifafa Day of Rest on July 1.

What is the Nutifafa Day of Rest?

This is our final event and celebration.
It includes:
Announcement of winners
Artist reflections
Guest performances
A community call to action: “What’s your wall to rebuild?”
This event will be held online and open to the public.

Will I be notified if I’m shortlisted?

Yes. Shortlisted participants will receive an email by June 26.
They will also be invited to submit an optional short video pitch explaining their work.

 What if I don’t have access to a phone or computer?

Your school liaison may assist with your registration and submission. Nutata will also help manage group submissions to ensure everyone has access.
